Our Story

How a family setback became a lifetime of documenting Ikwerre history.

Alex British Management began, as most things in this family did, with a problem to solve. Mr. Alexander Chinedu Ekwesi-Tasie grew up in Nkarahia village, Isiokpo, in a household that was poor in money and rich in story. His father, the late Elder Godson Azubuike Ekwesi-Tasie, was a recognised Ikwerre traditional hunter; his mother, Madam Chinerezi Florence Tasie, came from Umuokwanoro in Imo State.

The setbacks of that background were real, and he does not soften them. What he did with them is the story of this house: he wrote. First fiction, from 1992. Then, from 2004, the historical work that would define him.

A publishing house, not a vanity press

Alex British Management exists to keep these titles in print and in circulation — in university reading lists, in school libraries, and in the hands of Ikwerre families who want their own history written down by someone who lived inside it.

A people without a written history are not a people without a past. They are a people whose past has been kept somewhere else.

What we do

We publish history and fiction. We supply institutional and bulk orders to schools, universities and cultural bodies. And we take on speaking engagements on Ikwerre history, Niger Delta studies and the craft of writing African history from the inside.
